Fertilizing Your Lawn

Articles | 01-06-2009

Pick the best plant food. Test your lawn’s soil every few years.  Most soils in Texas are high in phosphorus (especially clays); therefore, turf usually needs a high-nitrogen 3-1-2 (examples:  15-5-10, 21-7-14) or 4-1-2 (examples:  20-5-10, 24-6-12) ratio fertilizer.

Quality fertilizers will have a high percentage of slow-release nitrogen. Although these fertilizers tend to be more expensive, they ensure superior turf performance with fewer problems.
